New Years is a time for renewal and cleansing. It is a time for clean, fresh beginnings. But right now it is October – also known as that crazy time of year filled with after school practices, helping with endless amounts of homework, the beginning of cold weather (and all the clothing clutter that accompanies this) and the throwing together meals at the last minute. This is the time of year when you are in full swing in your role as both taxi driver and superhero. It is a time that craves the rejuvenation of New Year’s.

In addition to being Sane Jane, I’m also somewhat of a Plain Jane. I am not the type of woman who changes her purse with her outfits. With this said, I do love the feeling of changing out my purse with the seasons. It is, as alluded to, the fresh start, so desperately needed during this time of year – no more gum wrappers crumpled at the bottom, or pen caps roaming around without their mate. I realize changing out one’s purse is not necessarily possible for everyone with the availability of time and resources. I find, however, that this feeling can almost be replicated when I clean out my purse while sitting in traffic, sitting in the carpool line, or sitting in the waiting room at the doctor’s office. This refreshing high can additionally be simulated through rearranging the furniture in a room, moving things around on a surface, as well as cleaning out drawers and switching things up to optimize space. These small tasks do not take a lot of time or money; two things I know are coveted during this time as we run around like chickens with our heads cut off, while simultaneously gearing up for the holidays.

These are not big, overwhelming, daunting “organizing” or decluttering projects, but the feeling you get when you finish is so refreshing and rewarding. It provides a clean slate when life’s plate is at its fullest.  🙂
